I consider myself a critical consumer of media and news. I wanted to have a long conversation with my son about the dangers of social media, etc, 🥱but I knew he’d check out. So, instead, we talked about what information consumption does to identity development and the pathways we grow for critically consuming information. Thank you for this piece. It reminds me we are not alone in this fight for our own attention.

Thanks so much for the comment!! I really appreciate the way you approached the conversation, not by warning or lecturing, but by inviting curiosity about identity and how information shapes us. That feels far more powerful (and lasting) than another “social media is bad” talk.

Your last line especially stayed with me—the fight for our own attention. It’s comforting, and grounding, to be reminded that this is something many of us are navigating together, as parents and as individuals. Thank you once again!!

ラシュミ san, I love your idea of keeping origami nearby to help stop reaching for your phone. I think it’s brilliant — I’m going to try it too!

You know what I did, and what actually worked for me is that I recently deleted YouTube from my phone, and I haven't been using social media on my phone for a while now. The only one I use is Substack, which I don't really consider it social media. I mainly watch long form YouTube videos, sometimes insta but not everyday and not for a long time just few posts and that's it. Because, like you said, it is hard to control. I tried app limits but I always always ignore hehe.

Raydaさん、コメント本当にありがとうございます!!

That actually sounds like a really healthy balance. Deleting YouTube from your phone is a big step, especially when app limits are so easy to ignore.

I like how you’re not aiming for “zero,” but choosing how and where you engage, long-form videos, intentional watching, and Substack instead of endless scrolling. Thanks for sharing what worked for you, it’s genuinely encouraging🙏🏼🥰
